Building a Reflection Habit
The players who improve fastest are not the ones who reflect the longest. They are the ones who reflect most consistently. Here is how to make reflection something you do automatically, without it feeling like a chore.
Attach it to something you already do
The easiest way to build a new habit is to attach it to an existing one. Reflect in the car on the way home from training. Or straight after your post-session snack. Pick a moment that already happens naturally.
Start small with just 2-3 sentences
You do not need to write an essay. Even a few sentences after each session gives the AI enough to work with. As you get comfortable, you will naturally write more. The goal is consistency, not length.
Use streaks to stay motivated
PlayReflect tracks your reflection streak. Try to reflect after every session, even briefly. Watching your streak grow is a simple motivator. If you miss one, start again. The longest streak is what matters, not perfection.
Set a weekly goal, not daily
Most young athletes train 2-4 times a week. Set a goal to reflect after every session that week. This is more realistic than daily and matches your actual schedule.
Review your progress monthly
Once a month, spend 5 minutes looking back through your reflections. Notice how your thinking has changed. See themes that have improved. This review reinforces why the habit is worth maintaining.
Start your streak today
Your first reflection is the hardest. After that, momentum takes over.
